Gardai have appealed for public assistance after two men were stabbed during a fight in Dublin city centre early this morning.

A Garda spokesman said two groups of young men and women were involved in the row on O'Connell Bridge at about 2.50am.

The injured men - aged 23 and 19 and from Dublin - were taken to St James's hospital. One has since been released, and it is believed the second underwent surgery.

Gardai are seeking witnesses to the incident and are particularly anxious to talk to a man who fled the scene in the direction of Wellington Quay following the incident.

Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000.
