A lucky player has won almost €150 million in Italy’s state lottery.

Italian state television RAI said someone in Bagnone, in the province of Massa Carrara, Tuscany, picked the winning combination to scoop last night's jackpot of €146.9 million.

State news agency Ansa reported the winner, whose name was not disclosed, had spent just €2 on the ticket.

The top prize in the SuperEnalotto had not been won since January 31st.

The winning combination was selected after weeks of mounting lotto fever that prompted tourists from across Europe to visit and play what was billed as the continent’s biggest lottery.

The biggest winner has been the Italian state, as players have spent more than €2 billion since the start of the year, and half of all the money played goes into state coffers.
