A window cleaner died after falling from the second floor of a building on O'Connell Street in Dublin yesterday.

A window cleaner died after falling from the second floor of a building on O'Connell Street in Dublin yesterday.

The 40-year-old Dubliner sustained serious head and internal injuries and died in the Mater Hospital.

He was cleaning the windows of a building at 32 Lower O'Connell Street when the incident happened just after 10 a.m. The building, opposite the GPO, houses an Abrakebabra restaurant on the ground floor and offices on the first and second floor.

Passers-by said it appeared that the man had released his safety harness to step back inside the second floor window when he slipped and fell.

An inspector from the Health and Safety Authority visited the site yesterday and will be preparing a detailed report on the incident.

Gardaí from Store Street Garda station are also investigating the case. Witnesses to the accident should contact the station at 01 - 666 8000.
