The widow of a leading amateur racing cyclist is to receive £209,800 following the death of her husband in a road traffic accident a year ago.

Details of the settlement in the case, brought by Ms Marie Crowley of Coolowen, Blarney, Co Cork, against the car driver, Ms Mary O'Carroll of Loretto Park, Douglas, and Deerpark Motors, Charleville (the owners of the car), were announced yesterday.

Dr John O'Mahony SC said Donal Crowley (44) was cycling on the main CorkMallow road on January 5th, last year when he was struck by a car driven by Ms O'Carroll. He died at the scene.

The father of four was one of Ireland's most accomplished amateur cyclists.
