LITTLE ROCK - Two Arkansas bankers and allies of President Clinton were acquitted yesterday on four fraud and conspiracy charges and a mistrial was declared in the seven remaining charges against both men.

The defendants, Herby Branscum and Robert Hill, were accused of defrauding their own bank and violating banking laws to help Mr Clinton's 1990 campaign for reelection as Arkansas governor. The partial verdict was greeted with relief at the White House.
