The contentious Orange Order parade through the Whiterock area of west Belfast passed off this afternoon without major incident.

Under a Parades Commission determination a limited parade of up to 50 people were allowed onto the mainly nationalist Springfield Road.

Police praised both sides for a peaceful outcome. The parade has perviously been the scene of serious trouble and in 2005 police were attacked with petrol and blast bombs during rioting.
