London - A British website devoted to runaway and abducted children was launched yesterday with police praising it as a powerful new tool to help find hundreds of British children who go missing each year.

The website was set up with the help of the US software company Computer Associates, which has similar sites in the US, Italy, the Netherlands and Brazil - building up a global database of more 1,700 "disappeared" children. The site, at www.missingkids.co.uk, has technology to show how children might look after physical ageing in the years following their disappearance.
