Several hundred students were forced to evacuate a Waterford school today after the school authorities received a bomb threat, which later proved to be a hoax.

Pupils from St Declan's Community College in Kilmacthomas were forced to evacuate the school after its secretary received a phone call around 1pm claiming there was bomb in a bin on the school grounds.

The gardaí were contacted and after a search of the school declared it safe for students to return.
