PUBLIC drinking water supplies are satisfactory overall, according to the EPA, the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA's report on the quality of drinking water for 1995 warns water suppliers to be "constantly vigilant" to avoid contamination of drinking water sources. The EPA's director, Ms Anne Butler, has urged public water suppliers to "continue their efforts to maintain the present standards and not allow a decline from the current satisfactory position".
