Thirty children under the age of 14 have died in accidental drowning incidents over the last five years, Irish Water Safety said today.

Unveiling a water-safety awareness week, the group is distributing a CD-Rom on the issue to every primary school in the State.

The CD is designed to teach children water safety while boating, or while near inland waterways, on beaches, in pools, on farms and at home.
