The Automobile Association has issued a strong warning to motorists to have independent checks before buying secondhand cars. This follows the discovery of two "nightmare" cars' by the AA's vehicle inspection service.

One was a UK imported Toyota Starlet, which was two separate cars welded together in the centre. The second car was an imported five year old BMW priced at £12,000, which had its chassis number removed and "hardly an original body panel left".
