The Minister for Agriculture, Mr Walsh, said yesterday he was hopeful the live cattle trade with Egypt will be reopened by the end of the month, Sean MacConnell, Agriculture Correspondent reports.

An Irish veterinary delegation had arrived back from Cairo yesterday where they were dealing with technical problems raised by the Egyptians, the Minister said at the RDS Horse Show yesterday. A further meeting with the Egyptians will take place on August 18th to finalise any outstanding difficulties in the trade which has been worth up to £100 million.
