THOUSANDS of disabled people may be deprived of their vote in the coming general election because of access problems at polling stations, the Irish "Council of People with Disabilities has warned.

In addition to appropriately designed polling booths, the council said, those who are unable to attend polling stations should be entitled to a postal vote and there should be photographs of the candidates, with their names in Braille, on ballot papers.
