The State's first commercial third-generation mobile phone service was launched today by Vodafone.

From today, business customers can plug a datacard into their laptops that provides high-speed remote Internet access.

The company claims the connection speed is up to seven times faster than a GPRS datacard.

Five pricing rates are on offer, with monthly bundle charges ranging from €25 to €199 and will be available from July 7th.

Vodafone says it has "achieved 45 per cent population coverage with our 3G network" and is committed to rolling out the network.
