Vodafone Ireland announced a 33 per cent price cut in weekend calls terminating on the Vodafone network to 5.97 cent.

The price cut accompanies Vodafone's latest performance figures - which show it acquired 18,000 customers in the second quarter of 2004, bringing its total customer base to 1,881,000.

Vodafone said its key 12-month average revenue figure grew to €591, up from €582 in the last quarter. This was driven by strong growth in voice use as Irish customers continue to demonstrate higher usage than other countries.

Vodafone claims that during the summer and at holiday times weekend traffic can account for up to 25 per cent of total traffic. The reduction comes into effect from September 1st.
