The voting system explained.
The total electorate for the vocational panels is 1,096 - consisting of all members of the new Dáil, the outgoing Seanad and every member of a county or borough council. The vote is multiplied by 1,000 to make it easier to calculate transfers and to facilitate the conduct of the second and subsequent counts.
