A delay in securing work permits has hampered a plan to bring up to 400 young Canadians to Galway to take up employment in the hotel and catering industry. The Galway Chamber of Commerce and Industry sought the trained staff from Newfoundland in response to a significant staffing shortage in the city's tourism industry. Now around just 50 or so are expected to make the journey.
