The journalist, Mr Vincent Browne, hosted his last Vincent Browne Tonight programme on the 98FM Dublin radio station last night. Mr Browne said he was exercising an option to terminate his agreement with the radio station.

"The immediate reason lord exercising this option is the pressure of academic commitments . . . More generally, it is because I have found it difficult to meet the demands of two hour nightly broadcasting with my other commitments," Mr Browne said.

He is due to sit law exams at the Kings Inns in two weeks' time.

Mr Ken Hutton, the general manager at 98FM, said the station regretted Mr Browne's decision as the programme had been "an outstanding success". He said they hoped to agree another arrangement with Mr Browne in the near future.
