Vietnam will be reopened to Irish people who wish to adopt children when it ratifies the Hague Convention on Inter-country Adoption, Minister for Children Barry Andrews, has said.

Speaking at the International Adoption Agency annual conference in Dublin at the weekend, Mr Andrews said he understood Vietnamese authorities have the ambition to adopt the convention in 2010 or no later than 2011.

The Minister said the Government would also examine a report on inter-country adoptions in Vietnam prepared by the International Social Services for Unicef.
