HANOI - The US has approved Vietnam's choice of a career diplomat, Mr Le Van Bang, as its first ambassador to Washington, the Foreign Ministry in Hanoi said yesterday.
US diplomats said approval had been expected immediately after last Thursday's confirmation by the Senate of Mr Douglas "Pete" Peterson as the first US ambassador to Hanoi.
