The man who died after an explosion at a Co Cavan dairy yesterday has been named as Martin Kirwan (48) from Crettyard, Co Carlow.

Another man was seriously injured in the explosion at the Lakeland Dairies in Killeshandra at midday yesterday.

A spokesman for the company confirmed the explosion occurred during "routine contract maintenance on a boiler".

The injured man was taken to Cavan General Hospital with what are understood to be facial burns.

The company expressed its condolences to the family and relatives of Mr Kirwan.

They also said an investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.
