Vessel detained over illegal fishing

A Belgian-registered fishing vessel has been detained by the Naval Service for allegedly breaching fishing regulations.

A Belgian-registered fishing vessel has been detained by the Naval Service for allegedly breaching fishing regulations.

The vessel was operating some 40km southwest of Tusker Rock lighthouse off the Co Wexford coast.

It was escorted ashore by the Irish Naval Service's LE Ciara. The vessel reached Rosslare Harbour shortly after midnight and was handed over to the gardaí.

The Naval Service has boarded 852 vessels off the Irish coast this year, resulting in eight detentions.
