Santiago - Chile's Supreme Court voted yesterday on whether to strip Gen Augusto Pinochet of immunity from prosecution, which is blocking attempts to try him for alleged human rights abuses, but kept the verdict secret.

A simple majority vote of the Supreme Court judges will decide the former dictator's fate. If he loses the ruling it could open a floodgate of charges against him.
