Students will vote today on whether the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) should change its policy on third-level fees.

The student representatives will be balloted on whether USI should continue with its current “free fees” policy or campaign for one of the following: the reintroduction of upfront fees; a graduate tax; student loans; or the current upfront student contribution.

The ballot is one of the key events at this year’s annual congress, which opened in Ballinasloe, Co Galway yesterday.Almost 300 delegates are attending the congress.
