US wholesale inventories rose for a third straight month in March to their highest in eight months, while sales posted their largest gain since November, a government report showed today.

Total wholesale inventories rose 0.4 per cent to $394.8 billion, the Commerce Department said, after an unrevised 0.6 per cent increase in February.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected stocks of unsold goods at US wholesalers to rise 0.5 per cent in March.
