The United States is seeking the extradition of a man who allegedly lost both his gun and his haul of $12,600 cash while leaving the scene of an alleged attempted armed robbery.

The US is seeking the surrender of James O’Gara (32), a native of New Jersey, with an address at Edward Square, Galway city, in connection with a bank robbery in the Bronx, New York, on April 2nd, 2007.

At the High Court in Dublin yesterday, Garda Sgt Seán Fallon said he arrested Mr O’Gara at Roscommon Garda station on Tuesday evening on foot of a warrant which had been issued by the High Court last July.

Mr Justice John MacMenamin remanded Mr O’Gara in custody for a week.
