Moscow - The United States and Russia yesterday signed preliminary agreements to divert the fuel of nuclear weapons and the attention of atomic scientists to peaceful purposes.

"Today we signed two documents that represent significant agreements advancing our mutual objective of reducing nuclear danger," US Vice President Al Gore told reporters after signing the agreements with the Russian Prime Minister, Mr Sergei Kiriyenko.
