The United States restored military ties today with Indonesia as a reward for the most populous Muslim's nation's counterterrorism cooperation and improved human rights record, State Department officials said.

"Indonesia is a voice of moderation in the Islamic world," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said in a statement explaining the decision.

"Indonesia has made significant progress in advancing its democratic institutions and practices in a relatively short time."
