US pharmaceutical company Schering Plough is to cut 170 jobs at its plant in Inishannon, Co Cork blaming a falling demand for its drug products for the decision.

The companywhich operates plants in Cork and Wicklow has recently suffered plunging profits, numerous accounting investigations and few new drugs to lift sales.

Today's announcement will bring the workforce at the company to 762 in the Republic.
