US marines have killed two more people after a gunfight in the Haitian captial Port-au Prince, US Marines said today.
The shooting, which took place last night after suspected supporters of ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide opened fired on marines patrolling a slum near the National Palace.
Air Force General Richard Myers, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, was due to pay a visit to the troubled region today.
The marines, leading a UN-sanctioned 2,550-member international peace force, have fought half a dozen battles since they landed here hours after the former president left the country on February 29th, pushed out by month-long revolt and by US pressure to quit.
Last night's shooting brought to six the number of Haitians killed by US forces since they arrived.
