A leading American lawyer in world boxing has been awarded $35,000 libel damages in the High Court in Belfast.

A leading American lawyer in world boxing has been awarded $35,000 libel damages in the High Court in Belfast.

Mr James (Jimmy) Binns, from Philadelphia, sued The Irish Times over an article which claimed he had acted for world champion Steve Collins in a court case at the same time as he was counsel for the World Boxing Association (WBA).

The article was published in December 1995. In June the newspaper withdrew the allegation and apologised.
