WASHINGTON President Clinton and the Israeli Prime Minister, Mr Shimon Peres, signed an agreement at the White House yesterday aimed at strengthening the two countries' fight against terrorism. The agreement calls for the US to supply Israel with advanced equipment for bomb detection and for closer intelligence co-operation.

The US will also give aid totalling $100 million over a two year period, including $50 million already voted by Congress for 1996.
