US armed forces are holding a German citizen in detention in Afghanistan as a terror suspect, Germany's foreign minister said today.
"I can confirm to you that a German national is in American custody in Afghanistan," Frank-Walter Steinmeier said.
"We are making an effort with the American government for a release." The German weekly magazine Der Spiegel reported earlier that the citizen was a 41-year-old German man and that, to the knowledge of the German security authorities, he posed no terror threat.
