The Bush administration urged the US Supreme Court today to dismiss an important case on whether President George W. Bush has the power to create military tribunals for Guantanamo prisoners because of a new law limiting court appeals by the detainees.

Administration lawyers said the new law applied to the case of Salim Ahmed Hamdan, a Yemeni accused of being Osama bin Laden's bodyguard and driver. The Supreme Court had agreed to decide his challenge to the military tribunals.
