The Open University has opened its first office in the Republic in Holles Street, Dublin - to cater for the growing demand for its distance education courses in this State, writes Paul Cullen, Education Correspondent.

More than 2,500 students from the Republic, as well as 3,500 in the North, are now studying for Open University qualifications.
