ALGIERS UN observers yesterday issued a critical report of Algeria's legislative elections, questioning the neutrality of polling stations reserved for the security forces.

The 103 observers from 30 countries issued the report in the form of a press release, following the cancellation of a press conference on the subject. . The Egyptian security services have arrested 40 suspected members of the Jamaa Islamiyya, the country's main armed Islamic group, a police spokesman said yesterday. The suspects have been rounded up over the past two weeks in the Cairo area and further south around Assyut.
