The Ulster Defence Association (UDA) has said that its members are beginning to question whether loyalists are gaining any advantages from the Belfast Agreement.

The UDA, angered by a decision by the Northern Secretary, Dr Mo Mowlam, to challenge an early release date for the Shankill UDA leader, Johnny Adair, claimed that the peace process was favouring republicans.

Adair will shortly have an opportunity to make an oral submission to the Sentence Review Commission to argue why he should be released.

It will be for the commission rather than Dr Mowlam to decide whether he meets the criteria for early release in the Belfast Agreement.
