Typhoon takes 180 lives

Hanoi - The death toll from Typhoon Linda's devastating passage through Vietnam and Thailand rose past 180 yesterday with more than 1,000 people still unaccounted for. The storm cut a swathe of destruction through southern Vietnam and Thailand, capsizing fishing fleets and destroying homes and crops. Typhoon Keith meanwhile left four dead in Japan, but appeared to be sparing the Philippines.
