Gardaí in Cork and Limerick have arrested two teenagers for questioning following a complaint by a 17-year-old girl that she was gang-raped by a number of youths over a six-hour period earlier this year.

Detectives arrested a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old in the Charleville area of Cork at about 8am yesterday for questioning about the alleged rape at locations near Charleville and Bruff, Co Limerick, on February 1st. The youths were arrested under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and one was taken to Bruff Garda station while the second youth was taken to Mallow station.

The girl has made a statement to gardaí in which she said she had gone in a car with three teenagers to St Colman’s Well, Bruff, where she said she was raped by three teenagers and later went to Ballyhea, Co Cork, where she was raped by one of the teenagers.
