Two people remain in custody for questioning in connection with the death of an elderly woman in her Northern Ireland home on the morning of Christmas Day.

Maire Rankin, an 81-year-old widow, had suffered multiple injuries prior to her death in her home in Newry, Co Down, according to police.

A man (39) and a woman (42) were arrested shortly after a post-mortem examination confirmed Ms Rankin's death was not an accident.
