A man and woman in their 20s were being questioned in a Limerick Garda station yesterday evening as part of an investigation into the death last week of Mr Thomas Clarke (73), Denmark Street, Limerick.

A post mortem examination was being conducted at the Regional Hospital, Limerick, by the State Pathologist, Dr John Harbison.

Gardai say they called to Mr Clarke's home on Monday after he told them he had fallen down the stairs. He was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries on Wednesday.

Gardai say a fracas took place in Denmark Street on Sunday evening which they are investigating in relation to the death of Mr Clarke.
