Two men from Dundalk were jailed for five years yesterday for the manslaughter of an elderly man found in Newry canal with concrete blocks tied to his neck and ankles. Mr John McStravick (60) had been badly beaten and suffered a hairline fracture of the skull.

Noel McClory (26), and Damien McShane(35), both of Park Avenue, Dundalk, had denied murder, but on the sixth day of their trial they changed their plea to manslaughter.
