Two men face IRA charges

Two Limerick men appeared at the Special Criminal Court yesterday on IRA membership charges.

Two Limerick men appeared at the Special Criminal Court yesterday on IRA membership charges.

Mr John Costelloe (33), of O'Dwyer Villas, Thomondgate, Limerick, was charged with IRA membership on July 23rd last year. Mr Joseph Shanahan (45), of Athlunkard Street, Limerick was charged with IRA membership on August 25th last year. He was also charged with falsely imprisoning Mr Michael Lyons at New Road, Killeely, Co Limerick, on the same date.

The court heard evidence from Det Sgt P.J. Walsh and Det Garda Joseph Heaney that both men were arrested in Limerick on Monday evening on warrants issued by the court on June 18th.

Mr Costelloe was remanded in custody until July 17th and Mr Shanahan until July 16th.
