A male pedestrian has become the first person to die on the roads in 2007.
The man (20) was walking on Mail Coach Road, Sligo, at 3.45am yesterday when he was hit by a car. He was taken to Sligo General Hospital where he died.
Elsewhere, a man (26) from Ballymena was killed in a crash in Co Antrim.
Shaun Paul O'Hagan died when the car he was travelling in left the road outside Cargan shortly before 3am.
