Rome - Vandals have poked holes through two paintings by the French artist Henri Matisse which were on show in a Rome museum, officials said yesterday. Ms Anna Sommella, director of the Capitoline Museum, said the damage had probably occurred while school groups were on guided tours.

She identified the works as Pianist with Checkers Players and The Japanese Woman.
