In Co Kerry, a 22-year-old man died when the car in which he was travelling overturned near Ballybunion at around 12.50 a.m. He was named as Mr Padraig Tydings of Urlee, Lisselton, Co.Kerry.

The male driver and another passenger, both in their 20s, were taken to Tralee General Hospital.

In Co Galway, a 26-year-old man died after his car struck a wall at Carraroe at around 4.30 a.m.

He was named as Mr Michael Lynch from Eanachmheain, Beal a Dangan, Carraroe.

No other vehicles were involved.

Meanwhile the man who died in a road crash in Co Longford yesterday has been named as Mr Joseph McStay (74), of Beech Park Drive, Foxrock in Dublin.
