Two pedestrians were killed on the country’s roads in separate incidents within hours of each other, it was disclosed today.

The first crash happened at Julianstown, Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny yesterday at about 10.30pm.

A 67-year-old man was hit by a car and was taken by ambulance to St Lukes Hospital in Kilkenny but later died.

The second collision occured at Muchwood, Glynn, Co Wexford at about 2am this morning.

A 23-year-old pedestrian struck by a car was taken by ambulance to Wexford General Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Both scenes have been sealed off to allow forensic investigators carry out an examination. Diversions are in place.
