Two people were killed in road accidents in Limerick and Westmeath yesterday.

A woman in her 50s died after the car she was driving was involved in a collision with another car and a truck at about, 7 p.m. a mile outside Kinnegad, Co Westmeath. She was said by gardai to be a local schools teacher. Two other people injured in the accident were being treated at Mullingar General Hospital.

Meanwhile, a man in his 30s died in a two-car crash at about 9.20 p.m. on the outskirts of Newcastle West, Co Limerick.
