Two men are in Garda custody this afternoon following an attempted raid on a post office in Cabra this morning.

Two men are in Garda custody this afternoon following an attempted raid on a post office in Cabra this morning.

It is understood armed members of the Emergency Response Unit and detectives from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation moved in after an attempt was made to gain entry to the rear of the post office.

The area was sealed off, but a Garda spokeswoman said no shots were fired and that nobody was injured.

The two men, both in their 20s, are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Blanchardstown and Cabra Garda stations. Gardaí are searching for a suspected third raider

They can be held for 72 hours before being either released or charged in connection with the incident.
