THE BURIALS of two prominent former Fianna Fáil public representatives from Waterford, who died within hours of each other last week, took place over the weekend.
William (Billy) Kenneally (83), a TD for some 17 years following his election to the 18th Dáil in 1965 died at Waterford Regional Hospital on Wednesday evening. He is survived by his son, current Fianna Fáil deputy Brendan Kenneally.
He was buried at Ballygunner Cemetery on Saturday, following Requiem Mass at St Joseph’s and Benildus Church in Newtown.
Mr Kenneally was the son of William Kenneally, who served as a Waterford TD from 1952 to 1961. He is survived by his wife Maureen; sons Brendan, Donal, Kevin, Patrick and Martin; brother Jackie; and his sister, Kathleen.
Ben Gavin (51), a former chairman of the Port of Waterford, a renowned local broadcaster, court reporter and Tramore town councillor, who served as mayor of Tramore, was buried at St Declan’s Cemetery, Riverstown, Tramore, on Saturday afternoon.
Mr Gavin is survived by his wife, Breda; son Shane; daughters, Aoife and Jenna; parents Maurice and Nuala; brother Philip; and sister Gaye.
